Movie using Aristotle rhetoric

Movies are an immersive portal to another world. They encompass you in an ocean of emotion. When you are watching a movie, you feel as though you are living it. We watch different genres of movies based on the emotion we are craving. When we feel tense and want to be on the edge of our seats, we watch horror movies. Or when we feel in love we watch romantic movies. Aristotle’s rhetoric uses ethos, pathos, and logos to create a whole story. Django Unchained is a movie about about a black man undertaking a traditional white role when he plays a cowboy bounty hunter. In the movie, Django earns his freedom and sets off to find his wife so she too can be free.

Aristotle’s rhetoric of ethos applies because Django because as a slave he spent his life as a slave to only blend in and be around white people who treat him as less than human. When he becomes a bounty hunter, he learns to stick out and not care what other’s think because he is a free man. Django was considered a smart slave because he was capable of learning to read and write which made him intelligent for his kind. He was also very well mannered and kind which made him a more likable character.

Logos applies to the movie because the movie was very comprehensive to the audience in being able to understand everything going on. The movie was also very straightforward in explaining the sequence of events and how the characters reacted making the audience more into the movie.

The last of Aristotle’s rhetoric was pathos. Pathos was widely used in the movie in variety of different ways. It showed Django being freed from slavery which is a very tender and happy moment. Another use of pathos was when Django found his wife and was able to finally be with her.

How social media use is linked to teenage depression

The article, “A rise in depression among teens could be linked to social media use” has plenty of sources to show the statistics that are given in the article to prove the claim. The first source that can prove to the audience that the information about to be given is reliable is from psychologist, Jean Twenge. Twenge works with her coworkers on looking at the surveys from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. They found plenty of surveys that was spanned out between 400,000 adults between 18 years and older. The main thing they found was that as the amount of time teens and young adults spend on social media, the greater they are to be at risk of depression. This evidence is supported from another article inside this article that is about how teens use social media to show off their social status. Overall, what both of them concluded with was that behaviors in teens and young adults can change for the better and, in the end, can help with their anxiety, stress, depression, and even their perception on life. The claims were easily supported through statistics, proven facts, reliable professionals, and reliable websites given throughout the article.

Learning to adopt not shop

The specific interest of mine is animals, mainly domesticated ones in shelters. My love for animals has always consumed me since I was in kindergarten and I knew I always wanted to help them but I just wasn’t sure how to. Now I know. When I first attended North Dakota State University, I already knew I wanted to major in animal science. While getting my education, I figured it would be a good idea to get some experience with animals so I got a job at the shelter. The saying that I always love telling people is to “adopt don’t shop.” According to caninejournal, “Adopting helps fight puppy mills. The more animals adopted from shelters, the less likely a puppy mill is capable of staying in business. This becomes a public concern because when people buy from a puppy mill, they are buying a breaded dog that has spent their whole life in terrible conditions.

I got my first family pet when I was 14 while living in Colorado. The process for getting a dog was surprisingly easy and fast. We basically just had to sign a couple forms. When I started working at the animal shelter, all I mainly did was help people adopt dogs. This made it easy to raise awareness and show people why we need to adopt and not shop.https://www.caninejournal.com/adopt-dont-shop/

Media Broadcasting demographics

I chose a different topic to talk about this week because I was curious in the news demographics. I thoroughly enjoy watching the news because I like to know what’s going on at all times. It wasn’t until I was given this assignment and doing the research that I realized the news industry is biased. It’s biased on what kind of news is being reported and by which gender.

Industry employment/demographics: Men report 74.8% of broadcast news while women report 25.2% and men produce 55% of news while women produce 45%.

Employment demographic: The women’s media center (WMC) made a study on how the diversity of news outlets has dropped since 2015. With ABC, CBS, and NBC combines men report three times as much as women and report more on “manly” concepts such as sports and weather while women report on lifestyle and education.

Market demographics: Men prefer following the news more while women enjoy it some. (69% vs. 50%)

Market demographic summary: There is not much of a difference in men or women who prefer watching the news than to not. It’s the topic that sets the gender audience a part. I pointed out that in the employment demographics that women are more likely to report on education and lifestyle while men report on sports. Not surprisingly enough, women are about 19% more likely to watch things about what women report on while men are 15% more likely to watch the topics men report on.

Overall, the ratio between the two demographics are inefficient. It’s completely and obviously unfair that there is a much less percentage of women in the broadcasting occupation than men and that what they report on is biased. Although it is proven that women like certain topics to men, it does not mean that is how it should be reported.https://www.americanpressinstitute.org/publications/reports/survey-research/social-demographic-differences-news-habits-attitudes/

Becoming a health educator with a communication degree

Becoming a health educator is the top occupation in those seeking an interest in a communication related job. What health educators do is they promote behaviors of wellness and behaviors. Health educators need at least a bachelor’s degree and, depending on the employer, the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). Health educators need to be able to collect data and health concerns with patients. This is why this occupation is part of the communication occupation in general.

I am preparing myself for this industry of work because I am majoring in psychology with a minor in anthropology. What a psychologist mainly does is it studies the patient’s social process, emotion, and behavior and be able to interpret it. This relates to a health educator because they both taking the findings of their patients to help improve the process and behavior. https://www.bls.gov/ooh/community-and-social-service/health-educators.htm

iphone 8 plus power save/performance options

As we are all students in college, we are constantly busy with schools, activities, study sessions, etc. Our phones are being used for various reasons and that takes the battery right up. There are many ways in which you can save your phone’s battery power. These ways include avoiding extreme temperatures, update to the latest software, making sure the device is on a low power mode, and viewing battery usage information.
Avoiding extreme temperatures is very important because it can damage the battery capacity meaning when the device is plugged in, there will be no power given to it. Keeping the phone in a hot environment can limit the charge to about 80% and damage it to the point where the device can’t be fixed. Storing it in a cold environment can decrease the battery life but not irreversibly. Updating to the latest software version of iOS can allow for better energy and battery saving.
An easy way to extend battery life and save energy is by enabling low power mode. When doing this, your device will reduce the brightness, optimize device performance, and reduce system animations. Several features such as mail and iCloud will be disabled at the time of power saving. Staying in this mode still lets the user use most of the apps on the phone.
Viewing the battery usage is helpful so you can see what apps are taking the most power/battery. You can see apps that are part of the background activity, which means apps are being used in the background even while keeping other apps open. You can also check the background location where you can see what apps are using location services. This takes up battery. The home and lock screen can pop up when getting a notification from an app. Meaning, they were displayed on the device and the display came up. This takes up battery because the display is coming up even when you’re not necessarily using your phone. The last thing that can effect your batter life is there is no cell coverage/signal. This can mean that your device is looking for a signal, and while it’s doing that, it’s taking up the battery for your phone.

How the CPU has evolved over time

A central processing unit (CPU) is a circuit within a piece of technology such as computers and phones that carries out the basic instruction of a specific program. The CPU consists of three major parts. The arithmetic logic unit (ALU) which performs the arithmetic and logic operations, the control unit (CU) which extracts memory to decode them, and then the immediate access store (IAS) which allows the memory available for programs. The CPU is a part of the motherboard where the information stays stored and the way CPU’s stay contemporary is that they are constantly decreasing the size of the transistors and increasing the KHz to a multi core GHz. This makes the CPU work faster and do more instruction. For example, back then the first processor was 740 KHz with omly 92,000 instructions a second. Now, processors are multi core and can take 100 billion instructions a second. For modern day devices such as phones and tablets, the CPU is paired with a SoC which allows for the pieces of technology to do more than just the basic functions of a standard CPU. A CPU used to only have a single core meaning it could only perform a single task. To try and keep the CPU relevant and up to date, the multi core processing system came out and changed the game for technology.
